Virtual visits: Reminiscence in residential aged care with digital mapping technologies

Objective Digital technologies can support reminiscence and lifestyle enrichment in residential aged care. This study explores potential benefits risks of virtual visits using digital maps, tablet computers reality technologies. Methods Reminiscence sessions were conducted with metropolitan care facility residents (n = 7), mapping applications to ‘visit’ places personal significance. Residents family members 4) interviewed. Results Some older adults found valuable all reminisced various ways about personal, social experiences. Family felt that would be enriching for loved ones they supported sharing life stories. Our results also highlight VR usability improvements are needed better suit people. Conclusion Virtual could offer opportunities positive some need provide users people who assist them.
